Indonesian is one of the world’s most popular languages. It’s not surprising, since Indonesia has a massive population and people like going there. Most people buy little phrasebooks or dictionaries to help navigate the communities without learning the entire language. Thankfully, your Android device can do that better than paper books these days. We can help show you the right apps for the job, too! Here are the best English to Indonesian dictionaries and phrasebooks for Android!

Dict Box is a fairly decent dictionary app. It supports many languages. However, each language has its own app. Thus, the experience remains lightweight and simple. This version does the basic stuff like translations between Indonesian and English and vice versa. Some other features include complete offline support, a decent design, image support, and it can quickly translate words in other apps. There isn’t really anything wrong with it. It performed admirably during our testing. The free version contains ads. The premium version does not, but the price is just a little steep. It’s not bad, though.
English Indonesian Translator
English Indonesian Translator is a simple, lightweight translator app. It translates from English to Indonesian and vice versa. Some of the other features include support for voice translation, image, and drawing translations. Additionally, you get audio pronunciations. That’s about all this app does. You won’t find a ton of extra features. That’s part of the app’s charm. It’s not overly difficult to use and includes only the basic features. There are some bugs but nothing serious. Most people should be fine with it. It’s also entirely free with advertising. We would’ve liked a way to remove the ads with a premium version, though.
Google Translate is probably the best app for English to Indonesian dictionaries or phrasebooks. It translates between 103 languages online and 59 languages offline (typing only). Additionally, the app uses your camera to translate things like street signs or restaurant menus. It can even translate full conversations in real time. That’s basically all you need. It also includes some very light learning tools and a bookmarking system. It’s free just like most Google products. We recommend this one first.

Indonesian-English Dictionary is a simple translation dictionary. It only translates between Indonesian and English. The app includes a bunch of words and translations. You also get a word trainer and some memorization games and lessons. It’s actually quite nice for future travel for the region. The app quizzes you on the basics so you learn them faster. It’s otherwise fairly basic and even a tad lackluster. This along with something like Google Translate is a potent one-two punch. It’s good enough on its own for most stuff, though.
Simply Learn Indonesian
Price: Free / Up to $4.99
Simply Learn Indonesian is one of the better Indonesian phrasebooks. The free version comes with over 300 words and phrases. Obviously, the premium version comes with more. Some of the other features include audio pronunciations and audio controls to slow down the speech. That way you can really nail the pronunciation. The app also includes some word games and memorization lessons, a bookmarking system for your favorite phrases, and more. It bills itself as a language learning app. However, it functions better as a phrasebook with language learning elements.
Bonus: Indonesian learning apps
Price: Free / Varies
There comes a point where just learning the language makes the most sense. There are a variety of apps that teach Indonesian, including apps like Mondly, Memrise, and others. These apps include dictionaries, translations, phrasebooks, and more. You also get the benefit of having all the lessons and practice that you could ever need. These apps are generally more expensive. However, they also contain vastly more content. We have Memrise linked up at the button. However, Mondly, Language Drops, and Duolingo also work well. Please note, that Duolingo won’t have it available until August 17th, 2018.
